At the 11th “Golden Chrysanthemum Award” China National Magic Competition & Comedy Competition, Unforgettable Years, the original comedy work of Ji’ning Acrobatic Performing Art Company won the Comedy program award.

The work depicts the lifelong friendship among three individuals across three distinct life stages: childhood, adulthood, and old age. In their childhood, the characters are portrayed as innocent and carefree, often playing together. As adults, they pursue different paths; although rivalry and jealousy arise as they compare and compete with one another, they still offer mutual support. In old age, they reconcile, letting go of past grievances and leaning on each other for comfort. The story concludes with a moving scene where they triumphantly re-complete a game from their childhood.

Plastic buckets serve as the central prop throughout the performance. Detailed costumes—such as student uniforms, business suits, and elderly attire—along with expressive gestures and movements, effectively convey the passage of time and evolution of personal identities against a simple backdrop. The actors delivered lively and vivid performances, employing rich and exaggerated physical expressions while retaining a childlike innocence. Their portrayal of emotions was both expressive and compelling.

Unforgettable Years integrates traditional Chinese acrobatics with Western-style comedy and cinematic techniques. The accompaniment of bass and harmonica further enhances the emotional richness of the performance. Rooted in everyday experiences, the work explores universal themes of friendship and human connection. Through the journey of three clowns, it holds up a mirror to the audience, inviting reflection on life’s complexities amidst laughter.
Originating from life, an inexhaustible source of artistic inspiration, Unforgettable Years, with its distinctive performance features and artistic style, has contributed a masterpiece to contemporary Chinese comedy.
