Founded in 1987, CWICF is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) of China and Hebei Provincial Government. It takes place every other year and has witnessed 17 sessions so far.

　　CWICF involves such events as international acrobatic competition, benefit performance, International Circus Carnival, International Circus Forum and International Acrobatics Trade Fair. With over 600 acts from over 50 countries since its establishment, CWICF, as the one with the longest history, largest scale and deepest influence in China, is reputed as“the Oriental Acrobatic Arena” in the international circus community. Golden Lion Award，the top award in CWICF, has become one of the most influential awards for international acrobats.
